CARRIER OILS:
Pumpkin Seed Oil – Organic unrefined pumpkin seed oil (aka green gold) has a rich reddish-green color and is a storehouse of incredible nutrients. It is rich in linoleic, oleic, palmitic, and stearic acids, vitamins A, C, and E, zinc, phytosterols and squalene. Concerning the benefits of pumpkin seed oil for hair, research suggests that pumpkin seed oil is extremely effective at reducing hair loss, promoting growth, and keeping the hair and scalp hydrated. Its effects on hair loss and growth are brought about by phytoestrogens and fatty acids. These compounds work in concert to inhibit the activity of 5-alpha-reducatse (an enzyme) that promotes the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that shrinks the hair’s follicles, alters the cyclic phase of the hair growth cycle, and encourages hair loss and thinning. Research findings suggest that among research participants who had androgenic alopecia, those treated with pumpkin seed oil observed a 40% increase in their hair counts after 24 weeks compared to 10% in the control group. Finally, the vitamin E, squalene, and fatty acid contents of pumpkin seed oil work to keep the hair and scalp hydrated and nourished in much the same way as they maintain the hydration and suppleness of skin.
Flaxseed Oil – Organic unrefined flaxseed oil is a near golden yellow in color and cold pressed from the nutrient powerhouse, flaxseeds. Flaxseed oil is extremely rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, particularly alpha linoleic acid (ALA) and linoleic acid. It also has a moderate proportion of monounsaturated fatty acids, particularly oleic acid. Topical application of flaxseed oil on scalp and hair after four weeks has been shown to improve the width or diameter of hair strands, which contributes to fuller and thicker-looking hair. Importantly also, the ALA content of flaxseed oil has been found to inhibit the 5 alpha reductase type 2 enzyme which promotes the proliferation of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that shrinks hair follicles, changes the cyclic phase of the hair growth cycle, and contributes to hair thinning and loss.
Sweet Almond Oil – Organic unrefined sweet almond oil has a pale-yellow hue and a faintly sweet and nutty aroma. It is incredibly rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (mostly oleic acid) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (primarily linoleic acid). It also has a high concentration of vitamins A and E and phytosterols. Sweet almond oil is incredibly useful as a hair treatment. Research suggests that it is a gentle and moisturizing conditioner for hair and has the ability to repair damaged and dry hair and restore it back to its original luster and shine.
ESSENTIAL OILS:
The serum contains three essential oils: cedarwood atlas, rosemary, and eucalyptus. Cedarwood atlas and rosemary essential oils, blended together, have been scientifically proven to help in the treatment of hair loss. Eucalyptus essential oil is known to stimulate the production of ceramides which are fatty acids that improve moisture retention in hair and skin. All three essential oils are also antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. Their anti-inflammatory properties help to calm skin/scalp inflammation, while their antiseptic properties help to prevent future skin/scalp ailments, and beard thinning, by inhibiting the growth of microbes.
