CARRIER OILS:
Chia Seed Oil – Organic unrefined chia seed oil is cold pressed from the globally renown superfood, chia seeds. It is a bright golden yellow in color and very unique in its chemical composition. Not only is chia seed oil very rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega-3 and 6), but it has the perfect ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6 fatty acids (3:1) among plant oils. It also has a high concentration of tocopherols (Vitamin E) and polyphenols. Chia seed oil’s most notable effects are in improving hydration and moisture retention, alleviating skin and scalp disorders, decreasing excessive melanin production, and protecting skin and hair against free radicals.
Macadamia Nut Oil – Organic unrefined macadamia nut oil is a fast-absorbing oil that is pale yellow in color and with a beautiful nutty odor. It has one of the highest concentrations of monounsaturated fatty acids (70%), most of which are oleic and palmitoleic fatty acids. It is also rich in vitamin E, phytosterols, and squalene and has more iron than cold pressed grapeseed oil. As it concerns the benefits of its chemical composition, palmitoleic acid, a predominant fatty acid in macadamia nut oil, is also a major component of the human sebum that keeps hair and skin healthy and moisturized. This means that macadamia nut oil is very effective at moisturizing and soothing the hair and skin, including very sensitive or easily irritated skin types. The phytosterols in macadamia nut oil also contribute to its suitability for sensitive skin and scalp as phytosterols help to reduce itching, redness, and soothe irritated skin and scalp. As far as hydration of skin and hair is concerned, the oleic acid in macadamia nut oil makes it effective at softening and moisturizing the hair and skin. Vitamin E’s water binding ability also contributes to macadamia nut oil’s effectiveness at increasing and maintaining the moisture level of the skin and hair.
Hemp Seed Oil – Organic unrefined hemp seed oil is dark green in color and has a remarkable fatty acid profile. Precisely, it is composed of 80% polyunsaturated fatty acids (particularly linoleic and alpha-linoleic acids), 11% monounsaturated fatty acids (primarily, oleic acid), and 9% saturated fatty acids (mainly, palmitic and stearic acid). It is also rich in flavonoids, phenols, and tannins. Clinical evidence suggests that the essential fatty acids in hemp seed oil contribute to its ability to hydrate the skin and hair; precisely, omega 3, 6 and oleic acid (omega 9) work in concert to improve the softness, suppleness, and smoothness of skin and hair without leaving them greasy. The alpha-linoleic acid present in hemp seed oil prevents hair loss by blocking the 5 alpha reductase type 2 enzyme which promotes the proliferation of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that shrinks hair follicles and disrupts the cyclic phase of the hair growth cycle. Lastly, hemp seed oil also contains amino acids which help to fortify and strengthen weak hair.
Olive Oil – Organic extra virgin olive oil is a widely popular, all-purpose oil that is golden green in color. It is very rich in oleic acid (70%), vitamins A and E, and hydrophilic phenols. The oleic acid content of olive oil is very readily absorbed by the skin and is extremely hydrating; this attribute possibly contributes to why olive oil is regarded as one of the most permeating oils on the market which makes it very well suited to hydrate and restore dry, distressed hair and skin.
Ungurahua Oil – Wildcrafted unrefined ungurahua oil (also referred to as rahua or pataua oil) is an increasingly popular and incredibly powerful oil for haircare. It is a medium green in color. It is very rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, with oleic acid accounting for 77.6% of its fatty acid content (a much higher concentration than is found in olive oil). Studies suggest that ungurahua oil is very effective at alleviating scalp conditions (such as itching and dandruff), revitalizing damaged hair, increasing hair strength, reducing hair loss, imparting moisture, controlling very frizzy hair, adding shine, and improving hair malleability for detangling purposes.
ESSENTIAL OILS:
The serum contains two essential oils: tea tree and cinnamon bark. Tea Tree essential oil with its menthol-like properties provides a cooling, relaxing sensation to the scalp and is beneficial for alleviating and preventing scalp disorders. Cinnamon bark essential oil is powerful at promoting blood circulation and stimulating hair growth. Both essential oils are also antiseptic and help to inhibit the growth of microbes on the scalp.
BOTANICALS:
The serum contains three botanicals: catnip herb, green tea leaves, and chamomile flowers. Catnip herb, infused in oil or used as a rinse, reduces split ends and controls frizz. Green tea leaves are highly antioxidant and anti-inflammatory and aid to prevent hair loss and scalp inflammation. Chamomile flowers are widely used to soothe and calm the scalp.
