CARRIER OILS:
Avocado Oil – Organic unrefined avocado oil is an emollient, highly permeating, anti-aging, and healing oil with a characteristic dark green color. It is rich in vitamins A, C, D, and E, as well as mono and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Avocado oil’s emollient and highly permeating attributes make it particularly effective at maintaining the skin’s barrier function (which is beneficial for preventing moisture loss) and nurturing the skin, scalp, and hair. Vitamin C helps to gently exfoliate the skin to produce a brighter and even skin tone. The Vitamin E and fatty acids in avocado oil combine with water molecules in the skin, hair, and scalp to facilitate moisture retention; they also provide protection against UV damage.
Apricot Kernel Oil – Organic unrefined apricot kernel oil is a mild, fast-absorbent, and nourishing oil that is a beautiful pale yellow to yellow in color. It is very rich in vitamins A, C, and E and oleic, linoleic, alpha-linoleic, and palmitic acids. Vitamins C and E in apricot kernel oil work in concert to reveal a brighter, more even-toned skin, with vitamin C helping to gently slough away dead skin cells and vitamin E helping to encourage new skin cell growth (cellular regeneration) as well as prevent future dark marks through its protective barrier against UV and free radicals. Importantly also, apricot kernel oil’s vitamin E and fatty acid contents make it a very emollient oil and perfect for deeply hydrating skin and hair and keeping them soft and supple.
Sacha Inchi Oil – Organic unrefined sacha inchi oil is a beautiful light yellow in color and has one of the highest concentrations of omega-3 (alpha-linoleic, 50.8%) and omega-6 (linoleic, 33.4%) fatty acids among plant oils. It is also very rich in tocopherols (vitamin E), phytosterols, and flavonoids. As far as skin and hair benefits are concerned, the alpha-linoleic and linoleic acids in sacha inchi oil work together with vitamin E to bind to water molecules, in so doing preventing trans-epidermal water loss and promoting the skin and hair’s moisture content. In fact, the ability of sacha inchi oil to hydrate the skin and hair in this way and promote their elasticity is quite unparalleled to other plant oils given its extremely high concentration of alpha-linoleic and linoleic acids (84.2% combined).
Macadamia Nut Oil – Organic unrefined macadamia nut oil is a fast-absorbing oil that is pale yellow in color and with a beautiful nutty odor. It has one of the highest concentrations of monounsaturated fatty acids (70%), most of which are oleic and palmitoleic fatty acids. It is also rich in vitamin E, phytosterols, and squalene and has more iron than cold pressed grapeseed oil. As it concerns the benefits of its chemical composition, palmitoleic acid, a predominant fatty acid in macadamia nut oil, is also a major component of the human sebum that keeps hair and skin healthy and moisturized. This means that macadamia nut oil is very effective at moisturizing and soothing the hair and skin, including very sensitive or easily irritated skin types. The phytosterols in macadamia nut oil also contribute to its suitability for sensitive skin as phytosterols help to reduce itching, redness, and soothe irritated skin. As far as hydration of skin and hair is concerned, the oleic acid in macadamia nut oil makes it effective at softening and moisturizing the hair and skin. Vitamin E’s water binding ability also contributes to macadamia nut oil’s effectiveness at increasing and maintaining the moisture level of the skin and hair.
