Organic extra virgin olive oil is a widely popular, all-purpose oil that is golden green in color. It is very rich in oleic acid (70%), vitamins A and E, and hydrophilic phenols. The oleic acid content of olive oil is very readily absorbed by the skin and extremely hydrating; this attribute possibly contributes to why olive oil is regarded as one of the most permeating oils on the market and being very well suited to hydrate and restore dry, distressed hair and skin. Olive oil’s vitamins A and E also make it beneficial for inclusion in face and neck serums as these antioxidants work together to reduce signs of aging (wrinkles and fine lines) and to maintain the skin’s softness, smoothness, and elasticity. Finally, olive oil’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties (which are due in part to its hydrophilic phenol content) make it effective at promoting skin reconstruction, wound closure, and healing when applied to bruised skin.
