CARRIER OILS:
Olive Oil – Organic extra virgin olive oil is a widely popular, all-purpose oil that is golden green in color. It is very rich in oleic acid (70%), vitamins A and E, and hydrophilic phenols. The oleic acid content of olive oil is very readily absorbed by the skin and is extremely hydrating; this attribute possibly contributes to why olive oil is regarded as one of the most permeating oils on the market which makes it very well suited to hydrate and restore dry, distressed hair and skin. Olive oil’s vitamin A and E contents also make it beneficial for inclusion in face and neck serums as these antioxidants work together to reduce signs of aging (wrinkles and fine lines) and to maintain the skin’s softness, smoothness, and elasticity. Finally, olive oil’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties (which are due in part to its hydrophilic phenol content) make it effective at promoting skin reconstruction, wound closure, and healing when applied to bruised skin.
Flaxseed Oil – Organic unrefined flaxseed oil is a near golden yellow in color and cold pressed from the nutrient powerhouse, flaxseeds. Flaxseed oil is extremely rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, particularly alpha linoleic acid (ALA) and linoleic acid. It also has a moderate proportion of monounsaturated fatty acids, particularly oleic acid. As far as skin is concerned, topical application of flaxseed oil has been shown to significantly decrease trans-epidermal water loss, skin roughness and scaling, and skin sensitivity after exposure to irritants like nicotine, while increasing smoothness, hydration, and elasticity.
Jojoba Oil – Organic unrefined jojoba oil is a beautiful golden yellow in color and rich in vitamins A and E, and phytosterols. Unlike other plant oils, jojoba oil is technically a liquid wax which makes it very shelf-stable and extremely resistant to oxidation, rancidity, and degradation. Jojoba oil is also very unique because of the similarity between its chemical composition and that of the sebum produced by the human sebaceous glands that keeps the skin and hair healthy and moisturized. Because of this similarity, jojoba oil is very well suited as an emollient to moisturize and soothe the hair and skin, including very sensitive skin types. Moreover, it also has humectant properties which makes it very effective at trapping or preserving moisture in the skin and hair for a long period of time. Studies show that jojoba oil has significant anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that make it useful for skin repair and the treatment of mild acne vulgaris (chronic acne) and scalp ailments. Finally, as far as its vitamin content goes, the vitamin A in jojoba oil makes it effective at reducing signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging. Additionally, the vitamin E in jojoba oil works to protect the skin and hair against UV damage as well as keep the skin and hair supple and hydrated.
