CARRIER OILS:
Argan Oil – Organic unrefined Moroccan argan oil is pale yellow in color and composed of monounsaturated fatty acids (80%) and saturated fatty acids (20%). It is also rich in vitamin E, squalene, polyphenols, sterols, and triterpene alcohols. As far as hair is concerned, argan oil works to decrease protein and moisture loss and frizz. It provides these effects by decreasing the swelling propensity of the hair cuticle, the upward curving of the surface cuticle, and the chipping away of cuticle cells. This protective effect of argan oil has also been confirmed in hair treated with commercial hair dyes including ultra-blond hair dye.
Ungurahua Oil – Wildcrafted unrefined ungurahua oil (also referred to as rahua or pataua oil) is an increasingly popular and incredibly powerful oil for haircare. It is a medium green in color. It is very rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, with oleic acid accounting for 77.6% of its fatty acid content (a much higher concentration than is found in olive oil). Studies suggest that ungurahua oil is very effective at alleviating scalp conditions (such as itching and dandruff), revitalizing damaged hair, increasing hair strength, reducing hair loss, imparting moisture, controlling very frizzy hair, adding shine, and improving hair malleability for detangling purposes.
Sacha Inchi Oil – Organic unrefined sacha inchi oil is a beautiful light yellow in color and has one of the highest concentrations of omega-3 (alpha-linoleic, 50.8%) and omega-6 (linoleic, 33.4%) fatty acids among plant oils. It is also very rich in tocopherols (vitamin E), phytosterols, and flavonoids. As far as skin and hair benefits are concerned, the alpha-linoleic and linoleic acids in sacha inchi oil work together with vitamin E to bind to water molecules, in so doing preventing trans-epidermal water loss and promoting the skin and hair’s moisture content. In fact, the ability of sacha inchi oil to hydrate the skin and hair in this way and promote their elasticity is quite unparalleled to other plant oils given its extremely high concentration of alpha-linoleic and linoleic acids (84.2% combined).
ESSENTIAL OILS:
Basil and ylang ylang essential oils are both antimicrobial and antioxidant. These properties give them the ability to calm scalp inflammation and promote blood circulation and hair growth.
