CARRIER OILS:
Ungurahua Oil – Wildcrafted unrefined ungurahua oil (also referred to as rahua or pataua oil) is an increasingly popular and incredibly powerful oil for haircare. It is a medium green in color. It is very rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, with oleic acid accounting for 77.6% of its fatty acid content (a much higher concentration than is found in olive oil). Studies suggest that ungurahua oil is very effective at alleviating scalp conditions (such as itching and dandruff), revitalizing damaged hair, increasing hair strength, reducing hair loss, imparting moisture, controlling very frizzy hair, adding shine, and improving hair malleability for detangling purposes.
Hemp Seed Oil – Organic unrefined hemp seed oil is dark green in color and has a remarkable fatty acid profile. Precisely, it is composed of 80% polyunsaturated fatty acids (particularly linoleic and alpha-linoleic acids), 11% monounsaturated fatty acids (primarily, oleic acid), and 9% saturated fatty acids (mainly, palmitic and stearic acid). It is also rich in flavonoids, phenols, and tannins. Clinical evidence suggests that the essential fatty acids in hemp seed oil contribute to its ability to hydrate the skin and hair; precisely, omega 3, 6 and oleic acid (omega 9) work in concert to improve the softness, suppleness, and smoothness of skin and hair without leaving them greasy. The alpha-linoleic acid present in hemp seed oil prevents hair loss by blocking the 5 alpha reductase type 2 enzyme which promotes the proliferation of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that shrinks hair follicles and disrupts the cyclic phase of the hair growth cycle. Lastly, hemp seed oil also contains amino acids which help to fortify and strengthen weak hair.
Sweet Almond Oil – Organic unrefined sweet almond oil has a pale-yellow hue and a faintly sweet and nutty aroma. It is incredibly rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (mostly oleic acid) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (primarily linoleic acid). It also has a high concentration of vitamins A and E and phytosterols. Sweet almond oil is incredibly useful as a hair treatment. Research suggests that it is a gentle and moisturizing conditioner for hair and has the ability to repair damaged and dry hair and restore it back to its original luster and shine.
Sea Buckthorn Oil – Organic unrefined sea buckthorn oil is an incredibly healing, regenerative, and fast-penetrating oil with a deep reddish orange color. It contains numerous bioactive ingredients including unsaturated fatty acids (omega-3, 6, 7), flavonoids, vitamins A, C, E, and K, and phytosterols. As far as haircare is concerned, the same healing, reparative, oxygenation, and moisture retention effects of sea buckthorn oil on the skin are also true for the scalp. Additionally, sea buckthorn oil helps to support the recovery of damaged hair by strengthening the hair and restoring elasticity. It also helps to prevent hair loss and encourage growth by promoting blood circulation on the scalp and encouraging the regeneration of hair follicles. Finally, the lecithin in sea buckthorn oil helps in the removal of excess sebum from the hair.
ESSENTIAL OILS:
The serum’s essential oils, clary sage and rose geranium, are antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory. They are both very effective at stimulating blood circulation in the scalp to promote the growth of healthy, strong hair strands.
BOTANICALS:
The serum contains three botanicals (horsetail herb, catnip herb, and hibiscus flowers). Horsetail herb has been used for centuries to stimulate the hair follicles and encourage thicker hair growth. Catnip herb, infused in oil or used as a rinse, aids to reduce split ends and control frizz. Hibiscus flowers, which are very rich in vitamin C, impart shine to the hair and assist with the production of collagen which is one of the primary amino acids that strengthen the hair.
